A busy June on the Yorktown

June is one of the busiest months for the club. We have three operating events coming up this month.

Museum Ships Weekend is the first weekend of the month, 1-2 June 2024. We plan to open the club room on the Yorktown around 0900 Saturday to activate the Yorktown and Laffey. Operations will run until the things get slow in the evening, then resume Sunday morning around 0900 and run until about 4pm. Operations will be drop-in style; call on the repeaters before showing up during off hours. We are still looking for mobile/portable operators to activate the PBR boat from the parking lot next to the boat.

On Friday 7 June we will be activating Special Event Station W2Z, celebrating the loss of USS Yorktown CV-5 at the Battle of Midway. The Yorktown was quickly replaced  by the to-be USS Bon Homme Richard CV-10, which was renamed USS Yorktown just to keep the Japanese confused. Operation will start around 9am and run until about 4pm, drop-in style.

ARRL Field Day will be held 22-23 June on the Yorktown. Operation will be from 2pm Saturday through 2pm Sunday. Steve AA2BB is coordinating operations.

If you are planning to be on the Yorktown after public operating hours (~9am-5pm) you will need to get a Patriots Point ID badge indicating your club affiliation. These are only issued on weekdays.
