Winter Field Day is about being prepared. We failed that test.
The trailer tires were flat and the inflater battery was dead. Our new folded dipole looked OK into a meter, but SWR jumped to 10:1 or worse when connected to the feedline (multiple cables were tried). Once the autotuner cooperated the radios were deaf.
There was only one person who signed up to come (not uncommon) but a handful showed up (normal). Not knowing if anybody would be available to tow the trailer back inside the garage overnight, we decided to pack up while we had help.
On top of all that, my car is misfiring and I don’t want to be driving it more than necessary.
Lesson Learned: The trailer committee needs to be doing more active maintenance, and the Emergency Coordinator (and the rest of us) need to do more trailer activations.
